What We Learned About Having Fun (and Still Sleeping Well) This August

This August, we went a little less "here's your sleep hygiene checklist" and a little more "let's actually have some fun with this." Turns out, good sleep and a good time aren't opposites.

Here's what stood out.

Falling asleep to something good beats forcing yourself to sleep

We rounded up our favourite movies to actually fall asleep to — the cosy, low-stakes kind, not thrillers with plot twists at 11pm. Turns out a familiar rewatch does more for winding down than most "sleep hygiene tips" ever will.

National Day proved you don't have to choose

Fireworks, gatherings, a late night with friends — celebrating properly and sleeping well aren't mutually exclusive. A little planning around hydration, pacing, and the next-day comedown goes further than skipping the celebration altogether.

Deep sleep and fast sleep aren't the same thing

We also looked at activities that actually improve sleep quality, not just how fast you doze off. A warm shower, light stretching, three lines in a journal — small, unglamorous, and genuinely effective.

And the supplement question, answered honestly

Probably the most-shared piece this month was our honest take on whether sleep supplements actually work — short version: they're a good final 10%, not a replacement for the fundamentals. If you haven't sorted your mattress and habits first, the gummy is fighting an uphill battle.

The thread running through all of it

Good sleep doesn't have to feel like a discipline you're failing at. Sometimes it's a good movie, sometimes it's a proper night out with a plan for the morning after, sometimes it's just three lines in a notebook before bed. If any of this got you thinking about what's actually working — or not — in your own setup, our Singaporean Sleep Upgrade Guide is a good foundational read to close out the month on.

Thanks for spending August with us. On to September.
