The Best Movies to Fall Asleep To (That Aren't Boring, We Promise)
Share
There's a very specific kind of movie you want at 10pm on a weeknight. Nothing with jump scares. Nothing with a cliffhanger that keeps you refreshing Reddit theories at midnight. Just something warm, a little slow, and easy to drift off to halfway through without feeling like you missed anything important.
Here's our current rotation.
For a gentle, cosy wind-down
My Neighbor Totoro

- practically the gold standard of "nothing bad is going to happen in this movie." Soft colours, a slow pace, and a soundtrack made for dozing off on the sofa.
Julie & Julia
- low stakes, comforting, and mostly about butter. Hard to go wrong.
Paddington

— genuinely funny without ever being tense. A good pick if you want something that keeps you smiling rather than gripped.
For background noise while you drift off
The Great British Bake Off

(technically a show, but we'll allow it) — familiar voices, gentle pacing, and you'll always know roughly what's happening even if your eyes close halfway through.
Chef — food, warm lighting, a road trip that goes nowhere dramatic. Perfect low-commitment viewing.
The one rule that actually matters
Skip anything you haven't seen before if the goal is actually sleeping. New plots keep your brain engaged and curious — exactly the opposite of what you want. Rewatches work better precisely because you already know how it ends; there's nothing left for your brain to chase.
You don't need to book a sleepcation to get the same low-key, screen-dimmed evening feeling — the right wind-down movie at home does a surprising amount of the same work. And if you're building an actual wind-down routine rather than just picking a movie at random, our Singaporean Sleep Upgrade Guide has a few more small habits worth pairing with movie night.
And once the credits roll — or, more realistically, once you've dozed off around minute 40 — a mattress that's actually comfortable to fall asleep on matters more than people give it credit for. See what's changed in our lineup if movie night keeps ending on the sofa instead of in bed.
